National Focal Point - Belgium

The National Focal Point for the EEA and EIONET

The core business of the National Focal Point (NFP) is co-ordinating the information flows (and requests) to and from the European Environment Agency (EEA) for the Belgian Environmental Networks (regional and federal). The members  of these networks (ministries, agencies, institutes), called National Reference centres (NRCs), are, together with similar networks in other countries, part of the European Environmental Information and Observation System (EIONET). The EIONET is an organisational network that supports the EEA.

The Belgian National Focal Point  for the EEA and the EIONET was set up by two cooperation agreements of December 21, 1995:

  • Cooperation Agreement concerning the amendment of the Cooperation Agreement of  May 18, 1994 between Brussels, Flemish and Walloon Regions for monitoring air emissions  and on data structuring;
  • Cooperation Agreement between the Belgian State, the Flemish Region, the Walloon Region and Brussels-Capital Region concerning the data structuring on Environment for the European Environment Agency.

The NFP is part of the Belgian Interregional Environment Agency (IRCEL-CELINE).
